Choosing your Woolly Weapons

(or what to bring to begin)

At every meeting we teach non-knitters the fine art of knitting (and bitching if you like) for free.

All you need to do is bring along your own yarn and needles. Getting your own yarn and needles is all part of the yarn-flavoured journey. We wouldn't want to take that away from you. Choosing your woolly weapons is one of the best bits.

Here is what you need if you come along to learn:

Needles: Best size to learn on is about 5.5 to 7mm (US size 8 to 10).

You can choose which material to get them in: bamboo, metal, plastic, all kinds of wood, or something made out of milk (we don't understand it either, but it's true).

Yarn: The best yarn to get is something simple and bright (not black as you won't see your stitches).

The size of the yarn should be DK (double knitting, basically your normal idea of yarn), or something a teeny bit thicker.

Easy to see and not too fancy is the best way. Doesn't mean it has to be boring. By all means get one in mad colours if you like.

No eyelash wool or anything too crazy, or you'll be very sorry. :)

What it will cost: Nothing at all! Lessons are completely free. (If you really want to say thanks, you can buy the nice person teaching you a drink or some kind of sweet, sweet cake if you really want. But our teachers expect nothing in return. It's all for the joy of spreading the knitty love that we do it.)

What about other knitting skills? We will also teach anything else you want to know from purling, to socks, to circulars, to belly-dancing (ok, not that last one).

If we know how to do it we can pass it on to you for free, free, free, and if we don't know we'll learn right alongside you, or dip into one of our many books to find the way.

Why? Because we're rather nice.
